Full Biography.

Alex Barsom is a Coptic-American composer and pianist with years of experience teaching and performing. 

Studying classical piano since the age of 6, Alex has since had a steady record of success as a performer. In high school he completed the Advanced Level of Certificate of Merit, performed in numerous local recitals and concerts, and he continues to perform regularly as a jazz pianist in combos, accompanying singers, and as a soloist. He has also taught classical piano and music theory for over 5 years, both in the United States and in Switzerland, to students of many ages.

Alex’s compositions have won him recognition in both national and international competitions, including commissions from vocalists, a commission and fellowship at the Impulse New Music Festival, and recently, SOLI Chamber Ensembles’ 30x30x30 project. He has also had the opportunity to collaborate with renowned artists such as JACK Quartet, Orchestra Senzaspine and the Carpe Diem String Quartet at Chigiana Academy, Yarn/Wire Ensemble, the Delgani String Quartet, Quatuor Diotima, and Aperture Duo. 

Alex is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in composition with Christopher Cerrone at Mannes College of Music. He earned his Bachelor’s degree at UCLA, where he studied primarily with Richard Danielpour, along with Kay Rhie, David Lefkowitz and Ian Krouse.
